News of our colleague, Norman Hollyn

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

With great sadness, we pass on the news of the death at age 66 of one of our most wonderful colleagues, Prof. Norman Hollyn. Norm was an at-large member of the Academic Senate Executive Board in four different years, most recently during the last academic year, when he so ably and kindly helped us through such a turbulent time. His passion, wisdom and good humor will be sorely missed by us all. Norm was a Professor in the School for Cinematic Arts and the inaugural holder of its Michael Kahn Endowed Chair in Editing.  He had been a film and/or music editor on such movies as Hair, Sophie’s Choice, Heathers, and The Cotton Club; and traveled the world hosting workshops at which he could share his knowledge and love of editing.  He died in Japan, where he was lecturing at the Tokyo University of the Arts.  We will miss him terribly.

Details regarding a memorial service are not yet available, but will be included on the Academic Senate website when they are available.
