Mentoring

Charge

The Mentoring Committee advises the Provost on faculty-to-faculty mentoring issues. The committee is charged each year with a specific focus to advance excellent mentoring at USC. The committee reports on its activities to the Academic Senate and Provost on a regular basis.

Specific Charge for 2022-2023 Academic Year

The Mentoring Committee will explore how to improve the current state of faculty-to-faculty mentoring, building on the findings and recommendations from the 2021-22 Faculty Environment and Employment Committee (FEEC) report. The FEEC report identified faculty-to-faculty mentoring in a) matching service opportunities to career goals and b) during review and promotion processes as critical for improving opportunities for career advancement. This year’s Mentoring Committee will develop recommendations for strengthening formal and informal mentoring structures in relation to Merit Review, promotion and tenure processes, with the goal of making these processes more meaningful opportunities/sites for the mentoring of faculty.
