Following the unexpected withdrawal of services by USC’s former childcare provider CCLC (now KinderCare Learning Center), the University has procured new operators for its childcare programs.
On the HSC campus, Bright Horizons has assumed operations of the HSC Child Development Center at 1435 Playground St. and is also operating the newly-constructed Alcazar Center located at 2215 E. Alcazar Street. The Alcazar center, which has a capacity of 132 children, opened its doors on Monday December 12th, and has spots available for immediate enrollment. The HSC Center is currently at full capacity (65 children), with wait list times up to 18 months. Bright Horizons is proactively reaching out to parents on the old center waitlist and offering placement at Alcazar. Updated details about HSC childcare options can be found through the USC Benefits website here .
On the UPC campus, K-Step Montessori has assumed operations of the UPC childcare center located at 2716 Severance Street. The existing facilities, which have a capacity of 132 children, are scheduled for renovation at the end of the year, at which time construction is expected to be completed on a renovated adjacent building. The new building will house 140 children, thus doubling the total capacity of the childcare program at UPC. Once construction and renovation are complete, the center will be able to accommodate nearly all currently waitlisted children. K-Step expects to begin enrolling new children from late February 2017 onwards. Updated details about UPC childcare options can be found through the USC Benefits website here.
Continuing and prospective families should note that new tuition rates have been established for the childcare centers on each campus to better reflect market rates for comparable programs and to ensure the highest quality of care. These rates will be effective for all new enrollees. However, the University is honoring a grandfathered lower rate for currently-enrolled children as well as waitlisted siblings of current children until they withdraw or age out of the program.
Under these two new providers, the childcare programs on the UPC and HSC campuses will continue to accept children aged 6 weeks to 5 years old and will maintain the same hours of operation (7am-6pm). As in the past, all USC childcare centers are required to maintain national accreditation standards for quality of care that exceed state licensing requirements.
